Beyond the Code

The Person Behind the Projects.

Although the code is important, here you can learn a little more about me, my journey, and the experiences that have shaped me into the developer I am today.

Questions & Answers

Rapid Fire Q&A

Here are some questions and answers that will give you a better understanding of who I am.

Most Treasured Item

Without a doubt it's my ridiculously overpriced coffee machine. Two Cappuccinos in the morning, one before standup one after. 100% the only thing I would run in to save if my house was on fire.

TV Shows / Films

Game of Thrones, The Matrixy Trilogy, Gladiator, MCU, Oppenheimer, Project Hail Mary... basically Sci-Fi / Action.

Music

I have a range, depends what im doing at the time. If im working, it will be Lo-Fi or House music. At the gym its either Hip-hop or Rock. On a roadtrip its usually a mix of pop throwbacks & everything else, I am partial to a 2000's banger.

Pet Peeves

People who abandon their trolley in the middle of the aisle at Aldi.

Hobbies & Interests

Football

I dont play anymore but I still follow and watch. Supported Newcastle all my life. Watch everything from Champions League right down to the EFL. If you were going to ask, it's Messi.

Weight Training

With my job being so sedentary, I try to get to the gym 4-6 times a week. Both for the physical and mental side of it. I have friends who are compeative bodybuilders and some powerlifters. we often have to travel for competitions which is a cool experience.

Flat Packs & DIY

Unfortunately hit the age where cracking out a laser level is dead exciting. One of the best things about this is its never finished! Special shout out to cutting the grass. 10/10 activity.

Dog Sitting

We don't have our own dog, as life is busy. We enjoy dog sitting for friends and family. We have a few regulars that we see often, and we love it.

Journey

Career Narrative

2018 - 2020

The Start

After graduating from university, I began my career by moving to London.

I worked on bash scripts for POS software alongside coordinating the engineers replacing POS hardware on site. This was a temporary position due to the nature of the project, but based on my performance, I was asked to join the web development team.

After some time I was fed up of living in London and started to look for a move back to the north east so I could be closer to my partner and family.

2020 - Now

The Present

I am currently working as a Senior Developer, where I lead technical initiatives and play a role in team decisions. My role involves project scoping from discovery all the way to post UAT, technical strategy, mentoring, and DevOps.

As part of my role I work on internal tooling to help improve processes and productivity, which has allowed me to widen my techstack and allows me to work on finding solutions for developers rather than just the clients and end users.

Beyond

The Future

Looking to the future, I hope to continually improve both as a professional and in my techincal ability. I want to continue to work on projects that challenge me and allow me to grow, while also mentoring and helping others in their careers.

I am also interested in exploring new technologies and processes, eventually I would like to work on bespoke Ecommerce platforms or a SAAS projects, rather than just working soley within the Shopify ecosystem.

Philosophy

Work Principles
Documentation

Async-first by design. I believe in maintaining a single source of truth that empowers teams to move independently without the friction of constant synchronous alignment.

Process

Precision over speed. While velocity matters, the cost of technical debt often outweighs the gains of a rushed release. I prioritize structural integrity in every commit.

Communication

Radical transparency. Honest communication about roadblocks and technical constraints is the bedrock of professional trust and successful project delivery.

Adaptation

Technological flexibility. Tools should serve the business goal, not the other way around. I maintain a tech-agnostic mindset to ensure the best solution for the problem.

Collaboration

Team-first mentality. I believe that everyone in the team has a voice, no Ego. Best idea wins, and I strive to create an environment where all team members feel empowered to contribute.
